Greenfield Foundation seeks to have a positive impact by providing general operating, project and program support and capacity funding at organizations where exceptional efforts accomplish one or more of the Foundation’s three goals.

Initiative Grants
The Greenfield Foundation first initiated this type of grant with the Goldsmith Awards Program, in partnership with the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School, recognizing investigative journalism that fosters ethical and effective government in the U.S. In following years, this model was extended to several other programs: the Greenfield Prize, in partnership with The Hermitage Artist Retreat; Temple Emergency Action Corps (TEAC), in collaboration with Temple University; and the Greenfield Youth Film Festival (GYFF), in partnership with the Upper Dublin Education Foundation.
Opportunity Grants
Greenfield Foundation funds both projects that award exceptional efforts on an annual basis (known as “Greenfield Opportunity Grants”) and ongoing projects (known as “Greenfield Initiative Grants”) that highlight and recognize significant work on a recurring basis. Grant criteria are as follows:​

Do the organization’s programs or projects address at least one of the three goals?

Do the organization’s programs or projects address an unmet or underserved need?

Do the organization’s programs or projects offer a new approach to address challenges?

Would funding the organization’s programs or projects have the potential for a ripple effect?

Individual, non-recurring Opportunity Grants typically range in size from $10,000 to $25,000. The Foundation accepts applications for one-year grants only, with the possibility of renewal grants for extended periods. Many of these grants support general operating needs.​​​​

Grant Cycles
Greenfield Foundation has two formal grant cycles per year. The Foundation accepts only invited proposals which must be received by February 1 and August 1. Grant decisions are made in May and December.
